Inspired by a certain chain seafood restaurant, these savory biscuits are easy enough to recreate at home anytime you crave them.
Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsps sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder, divided
- 1 Tbsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 sticks butter, divided, plus more for cast iron skillet
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp freshly chopped parsley
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder.
- Slice 1 stick of very butter into tablespoon-sized pats. Add to the mixing bowl with the flour, and with a pastry cutter or fork, cut the butter into the flour until it forms pea-sized pieces.
- Toss shredded cheese into the flour and butter until well combined.
- Slowly pour in cold buttermilk into the mixing bowl and stir until just combined.
- With a large spoon or ice cream scooper, drop large dollops of the batter into a greased 10″ cast iron skillet.
- Bake on the middle rack for 20 – 25 minutes, or until the tops of the biscuits are golden brown.
- While the biscuits are baking, melt remaining half stick of butter. Add remaining garlic powder and parsley to melted butter.
- When the biscuits are done and still hot from the oven, brush the melted butter and parsley over the tops of each biscuit.
- Serve warm.
