Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsps sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic powder, divided
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 sticks butter, divided, plus more for cast iron skillet
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 Tbsp freshly chopped parsley

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder.
  • Slice 1 stick of very butter into tablespoon-sized pats. Add to the mixing bowl with the flour, and with a pastry cutter or fork, cut the butter into the flour until it forms pea-sized pieces.
  • Toss shredded cheese into the flour and butter until well combined.
  • Slowly pour in cold buttermilk into the mixing bowl and stir until just combined.
  • With a large spoon or ice cream scooper, drop large dollops of the batter into a greased 10" cast iron skillet.
  • Bake on the middle rack for 20 - 25 minutes, or until the tops of the biscuits are golden brown.
  • While the biscuits are baking, melt remaining half stick of butter. Add remaining garlic powder and parsley to melted butter.
  • When the biscuits are done and still hot from the oven, brush the melted butter and parsley over the tops of each biscuit.
  • Serve warm.
